From this intriguing piece, “Forget Logic; Fear Appears to Have Edge” in the NYT.
In general, I don’t get frightened. I wasn’t scared during 9/11, I don’t fear train/plane/auto crashes, I don’t worry about walking down dark alleys or in cities at night or strange men. In other words, I’m reckless. Or delusional. Whatever.
It’s also easier not to be fearful when you don’t have much to lose, and I don’t. But it’s fascinating to understand the chemicals behind fear, because I’ll tell you - Monday? Monday I got scared.
Then I decided it wasn’t a productive emotion, and made an executive decision, which I issued to my brain, to move on.
It worked!
Now, can everyone else do the same, please? This is irrational, and it’s time to stop acting like animals and use our prefrontal cortex to overrule our amygalda!
